Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Family, Inclusion and Social Development visited today the Reception Center for Evacuated Patients (CADE) of the National Institute of Social Security (INPS), in Lisbon (Portugal) and noted that there has been “very positive progress” there.

Fernando Elísio Freire, who is in Lisbon to participate in the XVI Meeting of Ministers of Labor and Social Affairs of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), on Wednesday, 18, spoke to Inforpress at the end of his visit to the aforementioned space, which was opened two years ago.

According to the government official, this development has allowed for “greater proximity and greater efficiency”, and he assured that, like the Government, the population transferred for health reasons is “very satisfied with the work that the center is developing”.

He added that, at this moment, the center is managing “very competently and very closely” more than 600 patients transferred from INPS, that is, from the contributory regime.

In light of everything, he encouraged CADE to continue doing this “extraordinary work in assisting Cape Verdean citizens” transferred to this European country for health reasons.

The visit to CADE, according to the minister, aimed to monitor and evaluate the process of reception and assistance provided to Cape Verdean citizens in Portugal, for health reasons, as well as to learn about the functioning of the public service.

At the same time, a working meeting was held with a view to analyzing the functioning of CADE after its change of facilities and taking stock of the cooperation protocol between INPS and the Embassy of Cape Verde, in the field of accommodation and support for transferred patients.

Regarding the meeting, the XVI Meeting of Ministers of Labour and Social Affairs of the CPLP, he said that Cape Verde will reinforce the idea of having more and better mobility in the CPLP space, which according to him, implies mobility at the level of social security and social protection.

In this regard, Fernando Elísio Freire recalled that Cape Verde has already signed the multilateral convention on social security within the CPLP, which is currently in the ratification process.

“We [Cape Verde] want the CPLP space to be a space of freedom and democracy (..), and for citizens to move around with rights and social security and social protection. Therefore, this is what Cape Verde has defended and we will continue to defend”, reiterated the Minister of State.

Under the motto “Labor dignity and youth employability”, the meeting is being held within the framework of the Presidency of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the CPLP, assumed by the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, and in accordance with the calendar of sectoral ministerial meetings of the community.

However, the meeting will be preceded this Monday and Tuesday by the Meeting of CPLP Focal Points for the Fight against Child Labour, reinforcing the collective commitment of Member States in combating the worst forms of child labour and promoting inclusive and sustainable policies.

On Tuesday, the 17th, Freire has scheduled a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security of São Tomé and Príncipe, Joucerli Tiny dos Ramos, with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation and sharing experiences in the field of labor, social inclusion and social protection between the two African countries.
