Africa-Press – Cape verde. Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva begins an official mission to the United States and Portugal today, as part of the celebrations of 50 years of Independence, which are taking place under the motto “Cape Verde, our pride, our future”.
According to official information, this trip is part of a series of commemorative activities that aim to reinforce the spirit of national unity, strengthen ties with the diaspora and value the country’s collective trajectory over five decades of sovereignty, democracy and development.
In the United States, the head of government’s agenda includes a gala with the Cape Verdean community, as well as meetings with emigrants in the cities of Boston, Brockton, New Bedford and Rhode Island.
There are also plans to pay tribute to Cape Verdean personalities, as well as events of a business, cultural and religious nature.
In Portugal, Ulisses Correia e Silva will participate in the other Official Independence Gala, scheduled for July 2, in Lisbon.
The visit also includes a bilateral meeting with the Portuguese Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, reinforcing the historical and cooperative ties between the two countries.

The fiftieth anniversary celebrations take place throughout the year, under the motto “Cabo Verde, nôs Orgulho, nôs Futuro” (Cape Verde, our pride, our future), with emphasis on events that evoke history and project the ambition of a shared future between the archipelago and the diaspora.
