Africa-Press – Cape verde. In an interview with the press, Ângelo Vaz highlighted that the project aims to value the street vendors of Achada Igreja, especially those who work close to the city’s Police Station.
According to the same source, the city recognizes the importance of these women in the local economy, and the objective is to provide better working conditions, safety and a dignified space so that they can carry out their activities “more efficiently and safely”.
In addition to providing a suitable space for selling products, the project includes training activities for small businesses, with a focus on female empowerment and strengthening local micro-entrepreneurship.
“This market represents a collective victory, the result of the joint effort of the city government, partners, and the community, meeting a long-standing desire for a modern, accessible, and sustainable space that values agricultural production and the rural identity of São Salvador do Mundo,” the mayor stated.
The project, as reported, is funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with support from Luxembourg Cooperation, highlighting that it aligns with the United Nations objectives for the empowerment of women heads of households.
He informed that the land is already “properly identified” and that all conditions are prepared and that this market will be located next to Picart, in the locality of Cruz de Portal, in Achada Igreja.
