Africa-Press – Cape verde. The availability of water for agriculture and livestock in the municipality of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, will increase, starting this year, with the implementation of several programs already announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

Inforpress has learned that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has planned, for Porto Novo, a package of at least four programs linked to water mobilization, some of which are scheduled to be implemented later this year.

This is the case of the desalinated water mobilization program in Gamboeza, already in the implementation phase, which plans to mobilize more than a thousand cubic meters of water per day.

This ministry also confirmed the launch of a groundwater prospecting program this year, covering several agricultural areas, particularly Alto Mira, Chã de Norte, and Casa de Meio, with the construction of a dozen boreholes planned.

Still in relation to water mobilization, Ribeira das Patas will be the target of a program, as part of the reorganization of this hydrographic basin, which should include the execution of five boreholes.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is also preparing a livestock project for this year in the urban area of Porto Novo, which will focus primarily on mobilizing water to meet the demand of livestock farmers, focusing on the construction of three wells.
