Africa-Press – Cape verde. The island of Maio is set to host an extension of the Kriol Jazz Festival. The information was given this Tuesday, 15th, to RCV by the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Augusto Veiga, during a meeting with the Maio City Hall, as part of his official mission to the island.
Augusto Veiga stated that the possibility had already been discussed by the previous municipal executive and that the Maio City Hall simply needs to contact the Kriol Jazz organization, as this is an event organized by a private entity. “There was already this opening and I believe that the contact that was initiated will be resumed,” he added.
Maio’s councilor, Assis Silva, expressed his desire to receive the Kriol Jazz extension, an idea that comes from the previous administration.
“We like to continue what’s good, but this year the schedule was tight to host the extension of Kriol Jazz and other events that are also taking place,” he explained.
In an interview with Expresso das Ilhas, the Festival director, José da Silva, also revealed that he had already initiated contacts with the former mayor of Maio with the aim of bringing the event to the island of Maio.
Born in 2009 in Praia, the Kriol Jazz Festival is a fusion of music from various origins on a single stage. It brings together a panel of the best artists from the Creole world for a human and musical exchange.
Organized by Harmonia Ltd in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries, the Kriol Jazz Festival’s main objective is to promote Creole-inspired music originating from all islands, whether in the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, Cape Verde or Africa, the birthplace of Creole culture.
