Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdean researcher Vanusa Tavares hosted the 1st international seminar “Cultural Art and Subjectivity” today, which proposes a reflection on the importance of Cape Verdean cultural manifestations and how they can contribute to the dissemination of the archipelago’s identity.
The event took place this morning in the Municipality’s “Municipe” room at Praia City Hall, and was in partnership with the University Research and Extension Group “Body, Language, Politics, Education, and Subjectivity” (CLIPES).
Vanusa Tavares, a doctoral student and researcher in the Graduate Program in Knowledge Dissemination (PPGDC) at the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil, emphasized that the event, held in both hybrid and in-person formats, aims to reflect, dialogue, and debate cultural manifestations presented through art, music, poetry, dance, language, and gastronomy.
The focus, according to the promoter, is to understand the diversity that results in the country’s cultural expression, as part of field research for the construction and systematization of a doctoral thesis to be conducted in Cape Verde.
“We have an audience here that’s not only Cape Verdean, but also Brazilian colleagues, so they leave here learning a little about the Cape Verdean language, the cuisine, cachupa, our dance, batuco, and also our art,” she described.
With a program that includes debates, cultural presentations, poetry, and art exhibitions, the event, she praised, establishes itself as an opportunity to promote moments of reflection and aesthetic enjoyment through local cultural expressions.
For the researcher, this represents just the beginning; the 2nd international seminar “Cultural Art and Subjectivity” will be held in Brazil, aiming to bring about a comparison between the two cultural manifestations.
“Cape Verde is very well-known in Brazil. I’ve been to Ceará, and now I’m living in Salvador, and also in São Paulo. I think the Cape Verdean people try to leave a seed wherever they go,” he stated, highlighting the topic as an interesting part of the research.
The meeting featured panelists from various fields of artistic and cultural expression, faculty, students, artists, directors, and the community.
