Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, congratulated today, July 19, the municipality of São Salvador do Mundo on its Municipality Day, which this year coincides with the 20th anniversary of the creation of the municipality and the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence.

In a statement, the Head of State addressed a letter of congratulations to Mayor Ângelo Vaz, the city council and the Salvadoran population.

José Maria Neves congratulated the city government for its work, highlighting its support for the most vulnerable segments of the population and its “initiatives in the areas of social housing rehabilitation, urban redevelopment, and land clearing.”

The President of the Republic also praised two structural projects in the municipality: the construction of the new Health Center and the urban redevelopment work in Achada Igreja.

Despite the progress, he warned of “structural constraints that require increased attention, such as unemployment, poverty and limitations in water, sewage, DTT and mobile coverage networks.”

Neves, however, encouraged the city government to invest strategically in sectors such as “agriculture, agribusiness, livestock farming, and, above all, rural tourism,” considering them fundamental for development and territorial cohesion.

The President also highlighted the start of the agricultural campaign and expressed hope for an auspicious year. “May the rains be felt in abundance, filling the Faveta dam and allowing the emblematic Ponte Sansan waterfall […] to also boost the local economy and that of Santiago Island,” he wrote.

In a moment of recognition, José Maria Neves paid tribute to the late Augusta de Belo Freire, an iconic figure in local culture and a pioneer in the professionalization of ironwork. “In this moment of pain and mourning, I must express my deepest condolences,” he said.

The Head of State hoped that the festivities in the municipality would take place “in an atmosphere of fraternity, civic elevation and community communion,” appealing to the unity of Salvadorans, both residents and in the diaspora, in building a common future of progress and territorial justice.
