Africa-Press – Cape verde. The 2026 State Budget (OE 2026) will create the necessary conditions to strengthen effective access to justice and promote social reintegration. This assurance was given by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Olavo Correia.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Olavo Correia indicated that the Ministry of Finance held an arbitration meeting with the Ministry of Justice on Friday.

“In the justice sector, the 2026 State Budget will create the conditions to guarantee access to justice and fundamental rights, reduce backlogs in the courts and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, improve the social reintegration of former inmates, modernize the Judicial Police services, and ensure online access for citizens to most National Identification Registry (RNI) services,” he asserted.

According to the minister, the 2026 budget proposal comes in a context of consolidating economic growth, affirming Cape Verde as an upper-middle-income country, strengthening macroeconomic stability, and deepening fiscal responsibility.

According to the deputy prime minister, with a projected Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate of 6%, the country “reaffirms its commitment” to a sustainable and inclusive development model, “centered on promoting productive investment, creating decent jobs, and strategically enhancing human capital.”

“Social peace, access to justice, and institutional strengthening are fundamental elements for development and stability. Justice is essential for social peace, for defending rights, freedoms, and guarantees, for ensuring full knowledge of duties, and for creating the conditions and opportunities necessary for happiness and sustainable growth,” he adds.

Olavo Correia highlights the reduction in the public debt ratio to 96.3% of GDP, “a historic achievement not seen since 2014,” a result of fiscal consolidation, ongoing structural reforms, and Cape Verde’s growing credibility with international partners and financial markets.

The minister emphasizes that the 2026 State Budget will continue to be guided by “strategic pillars,” such as economic diversification, sustainable growth, and social and territorial cohesion.
