Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cabo Verde Music Awards (CVMA) announced today that the 2026 event will take place on June 6th in Mindelo, promising to boost the local economy following Storm Erin.
“Given everything that’s happened, this entire situation following Storm Erin, we’re bringing a little more joy and hope to Mindelo, an event that will also boost the city’s economy,” said Soraia de Deus, Communications Director for the CVMA, in a statement to Inforpress.
She also said that this decision had long been in line with the organization’s plan.
“We decided to bring the CVMA to Mindelo because it was a long-standing decision. We’ve already held an edition on Sal Island, and it made sense to bring the official music award of Cabo Verde to Mindelo,” explained Soraia de Deus.
Regarding the event’s impact on the island of São Vicente, the director stated that the CVMAs are eagerly awaited by both the artistic community and the general public.
“We hope to continue sparking public interest, encouraging them to attend the gala, applaud its artists, and bring a bit of the glamour and tribute to Cape Verdean music to the Mindelo audience,” she said.
Regarding the format and programming, the organization is in the preparation phase, including regulations, pre-selection of artists, and defining the gala’s costumes.
The event will maintain the traditional awards ceremony format, with live tributes and tributes, and will take place at the Port of Mindelo, in partnership with ENAPOR.
Regarding the honorees, the director said the focus will be on the island of São Vicente, including local artists and cultural producers, but the names are still being kept secret.
“This is what we will now work with our partners to develop the gala’s creative concept,” concluded Soraia de Deus.
