The president of the Cape Verdean Boxing Federation (FCB) announced this Tuesday, October 23, that the National Boxing Championship will take place from October 10th to 12th in Praia, with the participation of more than 60 athletes from seven of the country’s sporting regions.
In a statement to Inforpress, Manuel Monteiro said that this event was initially scheduled to take place this month on the island of São Vicente, but due to Storm Erin, which affected the island, they canceled it and decided to hold it in Praia, which has better conditions.
He also told Inforpress that boxers from seven of the country’s sporting regions are expected to participate in this event: Santo Antão Sul, São Vicente, Santiago Norte and Santiago Sul, Sal, Boa Vista, and Fogo.
What’s new this year, he said, is that last year they only had two women’s categories, and this year they managed to field four categories.
The Boxing Federation leader said the association has little support to organize this event, but that he is grateful to the few who have already offered their support.
Manuel Monteiro also stated that the biggest challenge is finding sponsorship to reward the winners.
