Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Eito de Santo Antão (men’s) and Ribeirinha de São Vicente (women’s) teams were crowned champions of the first edition of the Copa Comunidades – Meeting of Champions futsal tournament, with finals held Monday night on Boa Vista Island.

The competition, which brought together the futsal champions from five islands (Santo Antão, Sal, São Vicente, São Nicolau, and Boa Vista, the host nation), took place at the Seixal Municipal Pavilion.

In the women’s final, Ribeirinha de São Vicente won the title by defeating the host team from Sal Rei 8-3.

Jenifer Nascimento, a Ribeirinha player, expressed her “enormous joy and pride” in winning the trophy, highlighting the importance of women’s participation in a predominantly male-dominated event.

In the men’s competition, Eito de Santo Antão secured victory by defeating Sal Rei 5-4.

Eito’s António Firmino celebrated the triumph, referring to the team’s philosophy that “the end is for winning, not for playing,” and thanked the supporters.

Luís Monteiro “Ramon,” the event organizer, gave an “excellent and very positive” assessment of this first edition, despite the difficulties.

“Ramon” described the event as a “sense of satisfaction, mission accomplished, and fulfillment,” after a week of sport, fellowship, and learning.

The organizer, however, expressed his “deep disappointment” regarding the lack of involvement from national organizations.

Despite this obstacle, the competition’s success ensures its continuity, and the second edition of the Communities Cup – Meeting of Champions is already scheduled for September 4-11 next year, promising “many surprises,” with the location to be announced in due course.
