Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Luxembourg government has extended the fifth Indicative Cooperation Program (PIC’2021–2025) with Cape Verde by 18 months, increasing its budget by €4.1 million to support the implementation of the Climate Action Program.

The extension of the program, which already provided funding of €10 million (1.1 billion escudos) to support climate action, was formalized on Thursday by Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Xavier Bettel, and Cape Verdean Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva.

The head of government emphasized that this reinforcement “consolidates the partnership in areas vital to Cape Verde,” emphasizing that the country faces “a particularly challenging global context” in terms of climate and sustainable development.

During the visit, the head of government also met with Luxembourg’s Minister of Environment, Climate, and Biodiversity, Serge Wilmes, who reiterated his country’s solidarity with Cape Verde following the passage of Storm Erin and reaffirmed its commitment to Cape Verde’s climate agenda.

The meeting also announced the launch of the new International Climate Action Fund 2026–2031, valued at €320 million, in which Cape Verde will be considered a “priority country.”

Both parties expressed interest in organizing a joint side event at the next Conference of the Parties (COP), to be held in Brazil, to present the results of bilateral cooperation and reinforce their joint commitment to combating climate change.
