Africa-Press – Cape verde. The decision was made during an extraordinary session of the Municipal Assembly and will allow the construction of 12 social housing units to proceed, distributed between the localities of Cruzinha and Tarrafal, in the city of Ribeira Grande.
Mayor Armindo da Luz explained that the plots of land will be ceded to Imobiliária Fundiária e Habitat (IFH), with six houses to be built in each locality.
“Ribeira Grande faces a significant housing deficit and high demand for social housing, mainly in the city and in Cruzinha,” he said.
According to Armindo da Luz, the dynamics of tourism in Cruzinha, with the growth of hotels and restaurants, creates a need for a stable workforce, putting pressure on the rental market. “This proposal responds to three simultaneous challenges: dignified housing, social cohesion, and local economic development,” he added.
The project, according to the same source, foresees horizontal construction in Tarrafal, due to the scarcity of available land, and in Cruzinha, with apartments side-by-side.
Armindo da Luz stated that the houses will have areas of 80 square meters in Cruzinha and 158 square meters in Tarrafal, although in the latter case, construction will have to be done at altitude.
“The Government has a national project for the construction of affordable housing underway, and we chose to intervene in these two locations, which greatly benefit from this type of initiative. Much has already been done, but there is still much to do to address the housing deficit,” he emphasized.
In addition to approving the transfer of land plots to the IFH (Housing Institute of Rio Grande do Sul), located in Cruzinha and Tarrafal, in the city of Ribeira Grande, the City Council unanimously approved the proposal to extinguish the Autonomous Water and Sanitation Service of the Municipality of Ribeira Grande (SAAS RG).
The proposal to regulate the taxi service in the municipality was also approved, with 16 votes in favor, distributed among MpD, PAICV, and UCID, and one abstention from PAICV.
Furthermore, the Assembly approved the allocation of a plot of land to the company Águas de Santo Antão, intended for the installation of a Wastewater Treatment Plant in the city of Ponta do Sol.
The proposal received 11 votes in favor, 10 from the MpD and one from the UCID, and six abstentions from the PAICV.
