Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Regional Tourism Promotion Agency of Central Portugal (ARPTC/Turismo Centro Portugal) will assist the Santiago Tourism Association (ATS) in improving the quality of tourism offerings on the island, a partnership to be formalized in January 2026.

The president of ATS, Mário Sanches, and the secretary of the general assembly, Elizandra Barbosa, met this Monday in Viseu (Portugal) with ARPTC board member José Arimateia and technician Ana Cota.

In a statement sent to Inforpress, Mário Sanches stated that the association he has led since October has taken a decisive step in improving the quality of the island’s tourism offerings by formalizing this strategic partnership with an entity with 20 years of experience in external promotion and management of large projects.

The two ATS members will also participate, this Tuesday, the 25th, in the webinar “Cape Verde Tourism: from commitment to action – the Biosphere methodology”, aimed at companies and professionals in the tourism sector.

According to that official, the partnership comes at a strategic moment for Santiago, marked by the arrival of low-cost flights and the pressing need for innovation in the tourism sector.

“The arrival of low-cost flights is a catalyst for opportunities. Our role, as ATS, is to ensure that this increase in visitors translates into responsible, competitive, and high-quality growth,” said Mário Sanches.

“Our positioning strategy, combined with the existing partnership with Biosphere Portugal in the fields of training and sustainability, makes this alliance with ARPTC essential to raising the standard of the destination,” he added.

Sanches said that ARPTC has committed to transferring knowledge from the Portuguese project “Villages with History” to ATS, serving as a bridge with agents in the territory, and assisting ATS in setting up the Tourist Villages project on the island of Santiago. According to the association leader, this technical support aims to enhance the local offering, following the successful example of the Schist Villages in Portugal, where local communities are an active part of management and reconstruction, preserving their identity.

In the statement, ATS and ARPTC reinforce that this collaboration, to be formalized in early 2026, is crucial to equip businesses and the Santiago destination with the necessary tools for modern, sustainable, and economically viable tourism.

The two ATS members will also participate, this Tuesday, the 25th, in the webinar “Cape Verde Tourism: From Commitment to Action – The Biosphere Methodology,” aimed at companies and professionals in the tourism sector.

The event, which will take place under the theme “Discover how sustainability can be a competitive advantage for tourism in Cape Verde,” will present the Biosphere methodology and how to apply the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as the opportunities and practical steps to begin your sustainability journey.
