Africa-Press – Cape verde. The tenth edition of the Cape Verdean Handicrafts and Design Fair (Urdi) begins on Wednesday, the 26th, in Mindelo, to celebrate a decade of promoting the handicrafts and design sector, which has “developed significantly” since then.
This assurance was given by the director of the National Center for Art, Handicrafts and Design (CNAD), Artur Marçal, who, on behalf of the entity, declared to Inforpess that everything is ready for the start of the event at 6 PM, in Amílcar Cabral Square, also known as Praça Nova.
Under the motto “Urdi_10 years of celebrating Cape Verdean handicrafts and design,” this edition of the fair seeks to reinforce, according to the same source, the synergies between artisans, designers, and other creatives, bringing the sector closer to the public, which has already “developed considerably” during all this time.
Artur Marçal further stated that this year there will be no featured municipalities, as the event will focus on the entire nation due to the 50th anniversary of independence celebrations.
In this regard, he added, they have already confirmed the presence of all municipalities in the country, represented by 155 exhibitors distributed across 109 stands.
The opening ceremony will be presided over by the Minister of the Sea, Jorge Santos, and will also include speeches by the mayor of São Vicente, Augusto Neves, and the director of CNAD, Artur Marçal.
The program runs until Sunday, the 30th, with events such as “Great Conversations,” the “Created in Cabo Verde” Salon featuring various exhibitions, musical performances, and several other activities.
The 2025 edition also includes the Djoy Soares Award – Best Urdi Piece, created in homage to the master craftsman.
The award will recognize two creations presented by exhibiting artisans and designers: one chosen by public vote on the CNAD Facebook page and the other by evaluation from the technical team.
