Africa-Press – Cape verde. Portuguese Justice Minister Joana Rosa participated this Thursday in Accra, Ghana, in a high-level dialogue focused on mapping the future of drug markets in West Africa.
According to a statement sent to Inforpress, the meeting, organized by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Global Initiative, brings together regional and international government representatives, civil society, international organizations, and professionals.
The objective, according to the same source, is to strengthen political support and define concrete measures to boost actions to combat drug trafficking in West Africa.
This dialogue, she specified, marks the beginning of a preliminary mapping of cocaine and synthetic drug markets in the region, identifying gaps in evidence and highlighting emerging trends across West Africa.
Prior to this engagement, the minister was in Marrakech, Morocco, where she participated in the 93rd General Assembly Meeting of Interpol, which took place on Wednesday, the 26th, and also in the election of new leaders of that organization and the presentation of various topics associated with Interpol’s work. Among the topics discussed were the presence of women in the police force, the fight against cybercrime, and the strategic plan for the 2026-2030 period, among others.
During her stay in Morocco, the minister met with candidates from several countries competing for the positions, namely France, Nigeria, Turkey, Hungary, and China, all seeking support in the elections.
The meetings also served to reinforce and, in some cases, explore areas of cooperation in the justice sector, particularly within the scope of the Judicial Police’s actions.
The minister is accompanied on this mission by the director of the Judicial Police, Manuel da Lomba.
