Africa-Press – Cape verde. The second extraordinary meeting of the Ministers of Labor and Social Affairs of the CPLP (Community of Portuguese Language Countries), held this Wednesday in Praia, highlighted important advances in the implementation of the 2024-2030 strategic cooperation plan, as well as the fight against child labor.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of member countries to combating child labor, with emphasis on eliminating the worst forms of child labor and implementing coordinated actions to overcome persistent challenges.
The CPLP representative, Manuel Lapão, who presented the final declaration, stressed that the entry into force of the convention will be crucial to promoting labor mobility and the portability of social benefits, in addition to strengthening national social security systems and protecting migrant workers.
Lapão emphasized the importance of coordination between employment, training, social security, and labor inspection policies.
During the meeting, the second CPLP action plan to combat child labor (2026-2030) was approved, as well as the signing of the administrative agreement for the application of the CPLP multilateral social security convention until 2026.
Concrete actions were also decided upon, such as the presentation of a proposal on labor migration by June 2026 and the commencement, in January 2026, of technical work to implement the social security convention.
Other highlights included the holding of the 2nd CPLP Forum on Occupational Health and Safety and preparations for the 6th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labor, which will take place in February 2026.
The Final Declaration was signed by representatives from Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste.
