Africa-Press – Cape verde. Manuel António Martins Square in Santa Maria hosted the 10th edition of “Morna Jovem” on Friday evening, December 5th. This event, promoted by the local municipality, is part of the celebrations for National Morna Day, celebrated on December 3rd.

Held under the motto “Celebrating our morna in the voice of youth,” the event featured performances by seven young local artists, all female voices who had participated in previous editions, and included a special guest appearance by singer Fábio Ramos, whose participation added “even more brilliance” to the show.

For many attendees, the evening was memorable, and one participant described the experience as remarkable, highlighting the importance of celebrating morna as the “greatest expression” of Cape Verdean identity.

Stefânia Lopes, a regular at the event, stated that she always feels honored to perform on stage at initiatives dedicated to the musical genre, which has been elevated to Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity status by UNESCO.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to participate in ‘Morna Jovem’ or any activity that values ​​our culture. It’s our morna, our heritage, our local music,” he emphasized.

Singer Fábio Ramos, a guest at this edition, also highlighted his satisfaction.

“It’s a great honor and immense gratitude. Morna makes us feel and value our culture more and more. Events like this boost the new generation and give strength to young talents,” he said.

He also added that this was the second time he had participated in the show, which he described as “fuel” for his career.

The Secretary of Culture, Hedércio Gomes, guaranteed that the event has already become a reference point in the island’s cultural calendar.

“This activity is here to stay, it represents morna and values ​​what we have nationally. With each edition, it gains more brilliance and relevance,” he said.

The evening ended with all participants performing the theme “Doce Guerra” together, symbolically concluding the 10th edition of “Morna Jovem”.

According to the organizers, this event is establishing itself as a platform for showcasing young talent and preserving Cape Verdean cultural heritage.
