Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verdean delegation for the 2025 African Youth Games is already in Angola to compete in athletics, swimming, cycling (road and BMX), judo, karate, and fencing.

Composed of 30 members, including athletes, coaches, and technical staff, the Cape Verdean delegation left Praia on Monday, the 8th, confident in the “talent and determination of the young athletes.”

The head of the mission, Mitza Sousa, said that Cape Verde went to the 2025 African Youth Games with a young delegation committed to representing the country with excellence.

“We are here to announce that Cape Verde will be taking a young, talented, and committed delegation to Angola, representing the country with dignity, focus, and excellence,” said Sousa, emphasizing that the participation reinforces the development of youth sports and opens new doors for future international competitions.

In judo, the representatives are Edvânio Fidalgo, Raul Barreto, Lia Tavares, Lenira Job, and Ailton Semedo, all from Santiago Island, while in athletics, Tanga Fauré (Boa Vista), Leandro Duarte and Gerson Vicente (Sal), Marina Delgado and Lucas Delgado (São Vicente) will compete.

In swimming, Rafael Vasconcelos (Santiago) and Rafaela Almeida (Fogo) will be the athletes competing. In karate, Raissa Raimundo (Santiago) and Luana da Luz Costa (São Vicente) make up the team. Fencing will be represented by Laura Neves Andrade, also from Santiago.

The technical committee includes coaches Magner Mendes and João Fidalgo. (Judo), Eliseu Fortes (Athletics), Rui Spencer (Karate), Carlos Alves and Jânio Fortes (Cycling), Isaura Moncha (Fencing), in addition to Edmilson Fernandes, representative of the Institute of Sport and Youth (IDJ).
