Joana Rosa spoke at the inauguration ceremony, held this morning in Praia.
“The CEJJ (Center for Legal and Judicial Studies) is born as a true instrument of sovereignty, assuming legal and judicial training as a structuring dimension of the independence of the judiciary. By internally ensuring the technical, scientific, ethical and human preparation of its staff, the State reinforces the autonomy of the judicial system and reduces external dependence, channeling resources to other priorities of the sector. It will allow for the standardization and adaptation of training standards, promote a legal culture based on technical and scientific rigor, strengthen professional ethics and commitment to constitutional values, as well as prepare the judicial system for contemporary challenges,” she stated.
The president of the Board of Directors, Simão Santos, considers that the implementation of the Center for Legal and Judicial Studies constitutes a unique moment for the justice sector.
“The conception and implementation of the CEJJ represent a unique historical milestone in our legal system, which will indelibly outline a new paradigm for serving the administration of justice well, in the name of its original holder, the Cape Verdean people. It is, in truth, a long-held aspiration among us to be able to train our professionals according to our standards and needs, so that we have increasingly better magistrates, as well as better professionals in other areas related to the justice sector,” he highlighted.
The Board of Directors of the Center for Legal and Judicial Studies of Cape Verde has committed to investing in research and legal analysis of the national reality, in order to support training.
“The CEJJ will also promote and conduct studies, investigations, and analyses on legal and judicial matters concerning the sociocultural reality of the country, in order to support training. And because it is also part of its mission, the CEJJ intends to contribute and cooperate in training activities for professionals from the CPLP member countries,” he emphasized.
The Center for Legal and Judicial Studies of Cape Verde has the mission of ensuring the training of professionals linked to the justice sector. Simão Santos assumes the presidency of the Board of Directors, while the presidency of the General Council is held by the president of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, Bernardino Delgado.
