Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verdean diaspora constitutes “a central element” in the governance program and the strategic plan for sustainable development of the country, declared the Secretary of State for Communities, Vanuza Barbosa, in São Filipe.

The official was speaking on Tuesday, the 3rd, at the signing of the memorandum between the Government and the Municipal Chamber of São Filipe for the creation of the Diaspora Museum and stressed that the Government is implementing concrete measures to guarantee the active participation of emigrants in the economic, social, cultural and political development process of Cape Verde.

According to the same source, the Government has defined specific policies with the objective of creating instruments that allow the diaspora to contribute effectively and fully to national progress, such as encouraging diaspora entrepreneurship through the creation of the Emigrant Investor Statute, which grants fiscal and non-fiscal incentives and differentiated and privileged treatment to investments.

As part of the Ministry of Communities’ strategic plan, she added, a space dedicated to the diaspora was created, offering a personalized service with access to information on investment opportunities, available services, and other data relevant to the daily lives of Cape Verdeans abroad.

“It is in this context that the Investor’s Guide was developed, a tool designed to guide diaspora investors in identifying strategic areas and lines of investment, and attracting more and more capital to the country,” she said.

Vanuza Barbosa also highlighted that specific institutions have been created to support the diaspora in this process, but stressed that the government intends to go further and work “on simplifying, facilitating, and dematerializing procedures,” in order to make the investment environment “more accessible and attractive.”

For the Secretary of State, the creation of the museum dedicated to the diaspora constitutes further proof of the recognition of the emigrant’s role in development and represents a tribute to the men and women who left in search of new opportunities, but who remain connected to Cape Verde.

“It’s a way of recognizing the contribution, respect, and importance of our diaspora in the country’s development process,” concluded Vanuza Barbosa.
