Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Emicela Team Cabo Verde delegation departed this morning for Portugal, where they will participate in the Foz Côa Douro Trail Adventure 2026, missing three athletes whose connecting inter-island flights were cancelled due to dry fog.
According to information released to Inforpress by the Emicela Team Cabo Verde organization, athletes Milly Brito, from São Nicolau Island (winner of the “The Best Trail Series” 2025 and the Praia Freedom Race 2026), Daty Miranda, from Santa Catarina do Fogo, winner of the Praia Freedom Race 2026, and Samuel Miranda (Mosteiros), were unable to leave their home islands due to flight cancellations.
Because of this setback, Cabo Verde will be represented in this race, which takes place from the 20th to the 22nd of this month, the Foz Côa Douro Trail Adventure 2026, by only four of the seven registered athletes: Cavickson Fortes, Bruce dos Santos, Manuel Miranda, and Djulay Pina.
Bruce dos Santos, Cavickson Fortes, and Manuel Miranda will compete in the 17-kilometer race, while Djulay Pina will be the only Cape Verdean representative in the 31-kilometer race.
Among those who traveled to Portugal, Cavickson Fortes stands out by accumulating… Participation in various races abroad.
For the other athletes, this will be their debut in an international trail running competition.
The Emicela Team Cabo Verde’s participation is supported by the company Emicela, the municipal councils of Santa Catarina do Fogo, Mosteiros and Ribeira Brava, as well as the support of the race organizer, Carlos Sá, who ensures food and accommodation for the athletes at the Pocinho High Performance Rowing Center in Vila Nova de Foz Côa.
With this presence at the Foz Côa Douro Trail Adventure, the team aims to raise the profile of Cabo Verde on the international trail running scene and provide athletes with opportunities to participate.
