URDI Showcases Handicrafts and Design on Sal Island

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The URDI – Cape Verdean Handicrafts and Design Fair debuts on the island of Sal between March 25th and 29th, in the city of Santa Maria. After 10 editions in São Vicente, the event decentralizes to promote national culture in one of the country’s largest tourist areas under the motto “Value what is ours”.

The official opening ceremony will be at Praça Manuel António, at 6 pm, and will be presided over by the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Augusto Veiga.

Exhibition and sale of handicrafts and design from various islands, workshops, live demonstrations and cultural moments.

The program includes shows and DJ performances to liven up the city during the five days.

Holding the event in Sal is a bet to bring Cape Verdean art closer to an international audience, taking advantage of the island’s cosmopolitan character. The event seeks to unite artisanal tradition with the innovation of modern design, serving as a ‘showcase’ for national creatives.

The fair has free admission and invites everyone to discover the cultural identity and genuine artistic production of Cape Verde.
