Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic highlighted, on Tuesday in Porto Novo, the Sanjoanenses as one of the main emblems in the Santo Antão Sul sports region, encouraging the club to invest in training to ensure the institution’s sustainability.
José Maria Neves, who is visiting the island of mountains, went to the Sanjoanenses headquarters in Ribeira das Patas to acknowledge the contribution of the three-time regional champions to the development of national sport, classifying the club as “one of the great emblems” of regional football.
During the visit, the Head of State encouraged this club, founded in 1984, to invest in sports training and the establishment of partnerships to ensure the sustainability of this sports association.
The club president, Domingos Cruz, referred to the challenges faced by the Sanjoanenses, starting with the sustainability of the football team and the lack of a grass pitch in Ribeira das Patas, which forces the Ribeira das Patas team to travel 24 kilometers to train in the city of Porto Novo.
The Sanjoanenses are currently finalizing preparations to participate in an international tournament in Luxembourg in early April.
During his visit to Santo Antão, the Head of State has scheduled meetings with other sports institutions aimed at promoting national sport as a mechanism for inclusion and community development.
In Ribeira Grande, he will visit Rosariense and the Jal Domus Nostra youth athletics school.
