Health Delegations Launch Nationwide Vaccination Campaigns

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cabo Verde marks African Vaccination Week (AVW) with the implementation of vaccination drives, community awareness campaigns, and communication activities across all Health Delegations in the country. These activities are scheduled to take place between April 24 and 30, extending through May 7, as announced by the Ministry of Health.

Under the theme “Vaccines work at all ages,” this initiative aligns with the guidelines of the World Health Organization – African Region (WHO/AFRO). It aims to underscore the importance of lifelong vaccination, increase vaccination coverage across all islands and municipalities, bolster public confidence in vaccines, and promote health literacy.

The scheduled activities will be carried out under the coordination of the Ministry of Health—specifically through the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI)—with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.

The Ministry of Health notes that, over the past 50 years, vaccines have saved more than 150 million lives—equivalent to six lives per minute—contributing to a 40% improvement in child survival rates and preventing permanent disabilities in millions of children.

The closing ceremony for AVW 2026 is scheduled for May 7, featuring the presentation of results, commitments, and a preliminary assessment of the initiative.
