Santa Luzia Vessel Wins Regatta in São Filipe

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The vessel *Santa Luzia*, captained by Dampa, won the boat regatta held this Friday between the port of Vale dos Cavaleiros and Fonte Bila Beach, as part of the festivities celebrating the Municipality and Flag of São Filipe.

The race featured five participating boats but was marked by the early withdrawal of *Guardiões do Mar*, which dropped out shortly after the start due to a broken oar.

In a fiercely contested course, *Santa Luzia* pulled ahead, crossing the finish line in first place with a lead of several minutes, followed by the vessel *Tra Medo*, captained by Heleno.

Third place went to *Tione*, captained by Dario, while *Rau e Manuel*, under the leadership of Raul, finished in fourth position.

Just as in previous years, the arrival of the boats at Fonte Bila Beach drew a large crowd, which gathered at Praça do Presídio to witness the race’s conclusion and cheer on the participants.

Sporting events continue today, highlighted by the cycling race, which begins at 4:00 PM near the Águabrava building in the municipality of Mosteiros. The course covers just over 45 kilometers and features 12 athletes from the islands of Fogo and Santiago.

At the same time, the senior men’s athletics race gets underway, starting at “Ponto Zero” in the city of São Filipe (at Praça das Bandeiras); this event brings together 12 athletes from the islands of Fogo and Brava for a ten-thousand-meter race. Today’s program also features various cultural and recreational initiatives, such as the Sunset Event 2.0—organized by the company Big 3 Events—a panel discussion on the São Filipe festivities held in the Main Church courtyard (featuring “witnesses of hope” associated with Saint Philip), and a lecture on activities related to Saint Philip. Other highlights include the “Night of Wine, Music, Art, and Culture” event at the Casa das Bandeiras—organized by visual artist Yuri Alex—and a pre-event for the Mano a Mano Off-road rally, held at the Praça das Bandeiras.

Regarding this latter initiative, the Mayor of São Filipe, Nuías Silva, highlighted that it is “a special evening aimed at bringing together visual artists and fostering a fusion of wine, music, art, and culture,” underscoring the municipality’s ambition to position São Filipe as a premier destination for wine tourism, leveraging its strong cultural heritage.
