Africa-Press – Cape verde. Brazilian pastry chef Meyre Dalva, who has lived in Cape Verde for over 20 years, is investing in the production of healthy, fitness-oriented cakes, made without wheat flour or sugar, targeting clients with diabetes, hypertension, and other dietary restrictions.
In an interview with Inforpress, the entrepreneur, known as “Dalva,” explained that the initiative arose about a year ago after identifying a lack of healthy sweet alternatives in the capital’s market.
The production is based on the use of native products such as cassava, green banana, pumpkin, carrot, and beetroot, using sugarcane honey as a substitute for refined sugar.
“The idea is to meet specific dietary needs and encourage healthier habits at a time when interest in well-being is growing,” she said, emphasizing that although demand is still low due to it being a new concept, she has already built a loyal customer base that values the product.
The offerings include flavors like cassava, cabbage, and beetroot, with prices ranging from R$150 to R$200 per slice, values that the confectioner considers accessible to her target audience.
Dalva has been present at local fairs to promote her work and build a network of contacts.
Regarding the future, the confectioner revealed that she intends to open her own space in Praia to expand her business and, later, realize her dream of opening a restaurant specializing in Brazilian cuisine, maintaining her philosophy of healthy options.
