Skodji Digital Trains Over 450 Young People in Skills

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The “Skodji Digital” program began this Monday in Praia, with the onboarding of the first group of trainees, initiating training focused on strengthening digital skills and creating remote work opportunities in Cape Verde.

In this first phase, Skodji Digital (choose digital, in Portuguese) brings together 450 participants from all the islands and the diaspora, selected through applications submitted between November 2025 and March 2026.

The technical onboarding sessions will take place on April 27th and 28th in Praia, and on April 30th in Mindelo.

Integrated into the Digital Cabo Verde project, funded by the World Bank and promoted by the Government of Cape Verde, the program is implemented by an international consortium composed of Mundi Consulting, SPI Inovação, and CESAE Digital, in conjunction with the national digital ecosystem.

The trainees are distributed across three different tracks: Digital Activation, aimed at young people with little digital experience, with 101 participants; Digital Reskilling, aimed at people who want to change their professional field and enter the digital sector, with 244 participants; and Digital Upskilling, aimed at participants with basic or intermediate knowledge who seek to deepen their skills, with 105 enrolled.

The training will last six months, starting in May, in a distance learning format complemented by in-person activities.

The teaching staff includes national and international experts, totaling 14 trainers responsible for the technical and pedagogical components.

During the launch, the executive director of Mundi Consulting, Amina Khan, highlighted that the program aims to prepare Cape Verdeans to meet the demands of the international market.

According to her, the country demonstrates strong potential for digital technology, especially among young people, but still needs to consolidate additional skills, such as English proficiency, artificial intelligence, and “soft skills,” essential to compete in the global market.

“We are taking very important steps. Cape Verde has an appetite for digital technology, and this program aims to transform that capacity into concrete employment opportunities,” he said.

In addition to technical training, the project includes actions to connect trainees with global remote work opportunities, as well as contacts with public and private partners and potential employers.

The program also invests in social inclusion, integrating people with disabilities and promoting gender parity among participants.

Among the graduates is Zuleika Barros, known artistically as Zulu, a native of Boa Vista, who considers the initiative essential to keep up with current transformations.

The participant argued that professionals in all areas must prepare for an increasingly digital world, emphasizing that, in the artistic sector, digital skills are fundamental for publicizing, positioning, and marketing work in the international market.

The onboarding sessions took place at the University of Cape Verde (UniCV), on the Palmarejo Campus, in Praia, and at the University of Mindelo, in São Vicente.

The event served to introduce the learning platform, align expectations, and showcase the program’s future opportunities.
