Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of the Sea and of Culture and Creative Industries, Abraão Vicente, urged, this Thursday, 14, in Mindelo, that the difficulty that prevents São Vicente from receiving night flights at Cesária Évora International Airport be “immediately removed”.
The official made this appeal during the ceremony to commemorate the 143 years of the city of Mindelo, in Paços do Concelho, considering that it is “inconceivable” that Cesária Évora Airport still does not have night conditions to receive flights, “even more with the dynamic of hotel constructions on the island”.
Therefore, the minister launched a challenge to the company Aeroportos e Segurança Aérea (ASA) and the Civil Aviation Agency (AAC) to change the law and “immediately remove” and in the “national interest” the problem that prevents the city of Mindelo of receiving such operations at night.
“Here, it’s not a question of parochialism or Napoleonic struggles for the centrality of the islands. It is a matter of law, practicality and pragmatism,” she underlined.
Tourism as a city destination
Referring to the development of São Vicente, which should also be facing the sea, the official assured that tourism continues to be one of the city’s destinations, hence the need for professional training in the area to “respond to the demands that have resulted and will result in of the numerous hotel investments that abound on the island”.
“We must not be afraid of development”, reiterated the same source, who asked for “higher quality” training, also considering it essential that the Government and the City Council continue to develop Mindelo, so that the way of life is not lost, with right to the city, green spaces and civic participation.
