Africa-Press – Cape verde. Urban insecurity, environmental problems, poverty and social exclusion are the critical challenges of the Cape Verdean capital city, according to the president, Francisco Carvalho, underlined today, regarding the 164 of its elevation to the category of city.
“Access to housing is a critical issue. The issue of urban insecurity, the need to build peace, here in our municipality. On the environmental issue, Praia is a city that is too gray, with little green”, said Francisco Carvalho, speaking to RCV.
Another issue raised by the mayor has to do with the use of marine potential, not only for the business sector.
“It is not conceivable that Praia does not have structuring projects in the area of the sea. it makes no sense, when we mention the sea, it’s not just from a business perspective. It’s from a sporting perspective. How come we don’t have champions in the maritime area, if we have a lot of sea around us?”, he asked.
Lots by saving
For the mayor, there are still structuring challenges and priorities on which they are working.
It therefore lists a set of measures that it considers essential for facing these challenges, including informal settlements and for which, as he said, the municipality is working on making lots available for savings, reinforcing inspections and signing of memoranda of understanding with the heirs of São Martinho and other critical areas, so that the territory is organized.
As part of the commemorations of the 164th anniversary of the elevation of Praia to the category of city, the municipality has scheduled several activities, of a religious, sporting and cultural nature.
