Minister reiterates Government’s “political commitment” to UN Blue Strategy

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of the Sea reiterated on Thursday, in Praia, the Government’s “political commitment” to the United Nations Blue Strategy to preserving an area of 30 percent (%) of marine protected areas.

Abraão Vicente was speaking at the opening of the workshop “Blue Prosperity Cabo Verde”, organized by the Government, in partnership with Waitt Institute and the Blue Ocean Foundation, to validate the objectives of Cabo Verde Blue Prosperity and to implement the programs for the protection and management of the country’s ocean resources.

“We are here not only to confirm short-term commitments, but to plan in the medium and long term how we, as an ocean State, should look at the oceans,” explained Abraão Vicente, warning that for Cabo Verde the “future is today”, since it uses the sea as an economic factor for the development of the country.

“Cabo Verde has no other option but to adhere to international best practices, which cannot be for nothing. We are able to negotiate and demonstrate the absolute need for greater investment in the country by international organizations,” he said.
