Gender: Portuguese expert points to the need to listen and give visibility to women

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Gender specialist Catarina Marques Rodrigues highlighted this Tuesday, in the City of Praia, the importance of recognizing there is still inequality and men and women have different treatment, advocating the need to listen and give visibility to women.

The journalist and founder of the Gender Callin platform was speaking to the press as part of her participation in the 4th International Week for Reflection on Gender-Based Violence (VBG) until Friday, with the aim of reflection and debate on topics such as gender equality in the fight against GBV and sustainability in the fight against GBV.

Catarina Marques Rodrigues, who addressed the theme “Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion” highlighted the importance of giving power and visibility to women who, as she said, “do not always” have a space in the media.

“Women do not always have a space in journalism, their stories are not always told or so they are only when a crime of domestic violence happens, any catastrophe, but in the day-to-day we do not always have a voice about our needs, problems, about our doubts, (…) about what needs to be addressed to us,” she said.
