PM says that the idea of a “fat” government is stigma

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva defended this Sunday that the idea that the government cast is fat and represents a burden for the country is more stigmatized than what it actually is. The country, according to him, has the government it needs for the current conjuncture and situation.

“The issue is more stigmatized than what it actually is. There is an idea that the Government is a burden, that its number represents some kind of burden to the nation, with figures that do not correspond absolutely to the truth”, defended the Chief Executive, when asked about a possible reduction. of its government cast, due to the crisis situation.

The problem, as he pointed out, is not in the number of ministries, nor in the number of government members, but in the comparison made between different things.

“Like the salary of the poor versus the size of the Government, the problem of poverty (…)”, he listed.

anti-government idea

This comparison, he said, creates a very complicated idea of anti-government and anti-parliament, fundamental to making democracy work.

“For example, it is criticized that there is no governmental presence, active governance policies for the diaspora. We created the ministry of communities and it is criticized. So is diaspora important or not important?”, she asked, by way of example.

The same, he said, happened with the appointment of a Secretary of State for Health, with very specific tasks and competences, at a time when there is a need for reinforcement, because of the pandemic.

Indefinite cast reduction

Without advancing whether there will be a reduction in the governmental cast to contain expenses, Ulisses Correia e Silva guaranteed that, if this happens, it will be in a logic of effectiveness and efficiency, and never based on this idea that the government is “fat”.

Also because, as I said, remodeling is done and not announced.
