Africa-Press – Cape verde. The MpD’s MP elected by the constituency of São Vicente Mircea Delgado announced this Thursday, which will present to Parliament a bill to raise the Portuguese language to the national heritage of Cabo Verde.
During an intervention in the period of general issues, the Member explained that this initiative falls within the prerogatives the Constitution of the Republic grants her as a member of parliament.
The aim, as she explained, is to see Portuguese being part of the list of national intangible heritage in which Morna, São João, Tabanka, Talaia Baixo and the mother tongue are already inscribed
She explained that the Portuguese language, in addition to its projection with one of the most powerful languages in the world, has enormous symbolic value for the Cabo Verdean people, considering that it was the first language spoken on the islands since they were discovered.
