Africa-Press – Cape verde. The fire occurred on May 17 in Ponta Verde consumed an area of 105 hectares of forest and agricultural area, covering the areas of Fontinha, Monte Fotinho, Boca Larga and Ilheu de Contendas and affected 374 fruit trees.

After the fire, caused by fires to clean the agricultural land and due to unfavorable weather conditions got out of hand of the farmer, a technical team consisting of three technicians from the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA), one from the City Hall and the another oner from the civil protection carried out the assessment of the damage caused.

The data contained in a report refer that in the livestock sector the loss of eight infrastructures (dry stone corrals), destruction of 574 bundles of straw and death of an animal (pig) have been recorded.

In the agricultural field, the fire affected 374 fruit trees, including hoses (196), pine nuts (13), fig tree (four), mountain apples tree (two), citrus (29), coffee crops (46), banana trees (39), guava (nine), tamarind tree (five), cashew tree (29) and mulberry trees (two), and most of the fruit trees affected were adult (327).

According to the data, more than 60 percent (%) were mature mangos tree and citrus fruits that were in the production phase and 40% of the young hoses were grafted.
