Africa-Press – Cape verde. Recados de Amor” is the newest book by the poet André Monteiro Silva. This third work, by this fireman residing in the United States, has love and women as a source of inspiration. Its launch is scheduled for August, within the framework of the festivities of the municipality of Mosteiros.
“Recados de amor” is the third book by André Monteiro Silva, after having released, in 2016, “Nostalgia I”, written in English, and in 2021, “Nostalgia II”, in Portuguese and Cape Verdean.
To A NAÇÃO, the author, born in Mosteiros, Fogo Island, told that “Recados de Amor” “expresses deep feelings and reminds us of the urgency of learning to be happy and free alongside a great love. They are words, rhymes, verses that directly touch the soul and heart to make us reflect on life, love and relationships with the people we love. Therefore, it is a work of great beauty that deeply touches the feelings of women”.
Launch in August
The book should reach the public in August, with release in Cape Verde and the USA. “The idea is to launch the book in Cape Verde, more precisely on the island of Fogo, in August, within the framework of the festivities of the municipality of Mosteiros. Afterwards, I also intend to make a presentation in the United States”, said the poet.
Asked about the choice of Portuguese for this new book, given his “more direct” contact with English and Creole, the author explained that he needed to “adapt” to readers, especially Cape Verdeans residing in the USA. .
“After writing Nostalgia I in English, there were criticisms that I should write in Portuguese, because a large number of Cape Verdeans living in the United States cannot read English. I received this as a positive review and so I decided to write books in Portuguese so that the Cape Verdean community can better understand my poems, understand the desires and thoughts present in them”, explains André Silva.
“My greatest wish is that the lyricism of my verses New book by André Silva “Recados de Amor” be felt and shared by readers. In Omega, where all feelings are unified, love is experienced with self-esteem and resistance in favor of beauty in its maximum perfection”, he pointed out.
New books on the way…
Taking into account his source of inspiration, women, the author advances that his next books will not escape this rule. “All my books that I’ve written have mentioned women and love”, he expressed, confessing that he has great ambitions in terms of literature.
“The book ‘Recados de Amor II’ and the novel that I intend to launch, two years from now, will talk about women, the love I have for them and the care they deserve”, says the writer and also a composer, for those who “write books abroad is not an easy task, due to the time factor”.
“I have already started the book ‘Recados de Amor II’ in English and I am writing a novel in Portuguese. I don’t know what goal I will be able to reach, but the future will tell, as I have ambitious plans in terms of writing”, he concludes.
About the author
André Monteiro Silva was born in 1961 in the town of Atalaia, Mosteiros, on the island of Fogo. In 1984 he traveled to the then Soviet Union to major in Political Science. Back in his native country, he worked in the city of São Filipe and, in 1988, he returned to Mosteiros, to perform the functions of coordinator of the youth organization. In the same region, he worked as a teacher at the primary school in 1991.
In 1995, fulfilling the fate of Cape Verdeans, he immigrated to the USA, where he took the opportunity to continue his studies. Today with the title of “polyglot”, he is certified to work as a medical interpreter of the Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole languages.

As a poet, André Monteiro Silva was recognized in Mindelo, São Vicente, where Rádio de Cabo Verde broadcast his poems on the program “Música e Poesia”.
So far, it has three books of poetry, namely, “Nostalgia I”, in English, and “Nostalgia II”, in Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole, and “Recados de Amor” in two versions, Portuguese and Spanish.
In the USA, he is a member of the International Society of Poetry, an association that has published some of his poems. Other poems by André Monteiro Silva can also be found in the anthology “ALMA DE MAR”, edited by Chiado Editora.
Silva, who is also a composer, has some of his lyrics published, namely “Djon Funandi di Tchada Maris”, “Boka Dosi”, “Bida e Bunitu”, “Nos Amor”, and “Belita Bunita”.
Currently, the poet lives in Brockton, Massachusetts, USA, with his beloved wife, Santa Gomes Rodrigues Silva, their two children, Délcio and Andreia, and their two granddaughters, Leilani and Reina.
