Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Statistics Institute (INE) together with the High Authority for Immigration, will carry out a survey of the foreign and immigrant population, to draw up a complete and updated diagnosis of foreigners and immigrants residing in the various municipalities of the country.
In order to carry out this inquiry, iNE will proceed with the training of the inquiry agents from 8 to 13 August.
The INE justifies the survey with the lack of qualitative and quantitative data on immigration, which it says, “constitutes one of the main deficiencies in the management of immigration in Cape Verde”.
In a statement, INE also explains that this lack of data, in turn, makes it difficult “to monitor flows, to understand trends and influences between the different migration processes and to assess, among other dimensions, the profile of foreigners”. residing in the country, the total number or activities to which they engage”.
This institute recalls that Cape Verde is a country considered “traditionally and historically” of emigration, which has become, above all, over the last two decades, a country also of immigration, with the entry of citizens from different countries and continents. .
In this context, the diversity of profiles in terms of origin, language, culture, religion, level of education, living conditions and access to services, among other dimensions, pose challenges to Cape Verde in terms of the management of migratory flows, integration of the communities that settle and reside in the country, to the production of knowledge on the subject and, necessarily, to the production of statistical data that reflect the trajectory of these communities.
In this perspective, INE, together with the High Authority for Immigration, intends to carry out the Survey of the foreign and immigrant population”, which consists of drawing up a complete and updated diagnosis of foreigners and immigrants residing in the various municipalities of the country.
In this perspective, the training of the inquiry agents will be carried out, which will take place from August 08 to 13 of the current year.
The opening session will be chaired by His Excellency. Mrs. President of the High Authority for Immigration, Dr. Carmem Barros, will be attended by Mr. Vice President of INE, Dr. Fernando Rocha, which will take place on August 8, at 9 am, at the Praia Employment and Vocational Training Center on Rua CV Telecom Chã D` Areia.
