Africa-Press – Cape verde. The national police will have video surveillance cameras mounted on the premises of the Baía das Gatas Festival, in São Vicente, to monitor movements.
The information was released to the press by the Regional Commander of the National Police (PN), João Santos, in São Vicente.
According to him, the corporation will have surveillance cameras, for the first time, in Baía das Gatas, in addition to around 150 staff to monitor the festival.
The cameras will be monitored by four elements fixed in Baía das Gatas and another also with four elements for video surveillance in the PN Command Center.
“We will have a specific team in Baía das Gatas to monitor the cameras in the Bay. We will also have a team here whose mission will be to monitor the cameras that are connected to Baía das Gatas, those that monitor the exit, and even some of those in Baía”, he clarified.
Great adhesion
This official believes that there will be a huge number of people joining Baía das Gatas.
In total, between 100 and 150 PN elements will be assigned to the festival, but, as I said, “the number can fluctuate depending on needs”. Also, the Traffic Police will be in “continuous mobility”, depending on these needs.
“We will have transit teams all over the road, fixed and mobile, on bikes and in vehicles, duly marked to accompany them. In the same way, we will be equipped with our breathalyzers to measure the alcohol content in the blood, mainly of drivers, but pedestrians on public roads are subject to being caught with this measure”.
According to him, there will be a PN service station in Baía das Gatas to receive complaints, and the entire Criminal Investigation Brigade will be at the festival, which will also have fixed vehicles patrolling, people on foot, by the beach, or in plain clothes, disguised in the midst of the crowd to act in case of any wrongdoing.
“We will work in connection with the supervision of the Municipality of São Vicente, with the municipal firefighters, with the Red Cross, and with the Military Police, sharing missions where necessary and possible”, he guaranteed.
Operational plan
The operational plan, he said, encompasses the city of Mindelo and Baía das Gatas, so Mindelo “will not be unguarded”.
“The maritime and air borders will be covered with their personnel and the tax guard will be in their territory working”, he guaranteed.
João Santos recommends that pedestrians always walk along the side of the road, and always facing vehicles, to ensure safety.
He asked drivers to make use of the road “in the best way”, to ensure that passengers are traveling with the “desired safety”, and “never exceed the limit of passengers per vehicle”.
He also appealed to them to avoid “excessive speed and dangerous maneuvers, such as overtaking, reversing or reversing that could disturb the movement of vehicles”.
The festival starts this Friday, 12, back to its usual venue, after an absence of two years due to the pandemic.
