Africa-Press – Cape verde. Tour operators and tourism agents on the island of Santiago are celebrating World Tourism Day this Tuesday, 27th, in an open conversation to “Rethink the Tourism you want for the Old Town”, along with the “necessary interconnection” with the other municipalities of the island, consequently a “more inclusive” tourism in Cape Verde.
The event, this year, under the motto “Rethinking Tourism – What Tourism We Want” will be marked in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, with start scheduled for 9 am, according to a press release.
The event will be chaired by the mayor of Ribeira Grande de Santiago, Nelson Moreira, in the presence of all local tour operators and agents, in addition to those responsible for tourism at the level of other municipalities on the island of Santiago.
The open conversation will have as speakers the university professor, consultant and researcher José Luís Mascarenhas Monteiro, the president of the Santiago Tourism Association, Eugênio Inocêncio and the representative of the Cultural Heritage Institute, Sandra Mascarenhas.
“Rethinking Tourism” in Cidade Velha
The choice of Cidade Velha for this event, according to the organizers, is due to the fact that it is considered the “Cradle of Cape Verde” “has, due to its own specificity, all the ingredients to position itself as a destination of excellence, from the point of view of in view of the quality of the tourist product, which still falls short of its real and effective potential”.
In this sense, they believe that the commemoration of this year’s World Tourism Day will be an opportunity to “Rethink Tourism” that is wanted for Cidade Velha, the Municipality of RGS.
This, along with the “necessary interconnection” with the other municipalities on the island of Santiago, “in an inclusive logic” and of valuing all the “dormant” tourist potential that lacks an “effective and articulated awakening”.
The open conversation takes place on the morning of this Tuesday, 27th, World Tourism Day, at the Centro Cultural da Cidade Velha.
