Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Santo Antão Cycling Association is promoting a project that aims to help cyclists without resources to acquire their own bicycle for cycling. The project has already begun to bear “the first fruits” as the paint company SITA has already financed the first bicycle for a young man from Porto.
“This project was created with the aim of helping young cyclists to acquire their bicycle. A used bicycle costs between 30 and 80 thousand escudos and a new one is above 100 thousand escudos”, said José Pinto, considering that these values are unaffordable for young people without a job, but with the talent to practice cycling.
The forecast is to help, in a first step, five young cyclists to acquire their own bicycle to be able to practice this sport and compete, said the same source, highlighting the fact that there are “very interested and talented young people”, but “without any conditions ” to get a bike.
The project coordinator added, however, that this initiative “begins to bear fruit”, after the paint company SITA financed the first bicycle for a young man from Porto.
“We ask for the support of other public and private institutions and also individuals to serve as partners in this noble mission of helping those who need it most to fulfill their dreams”, concluded José Pinto.
