The United Nations Day, which is celebrated on October 24, will be marked, in Cape Verde, by the signing of the new Cooperation Framework 2023-2027, in addition to several other activities. This, at a time when this organization celebrates 77 years. The new Framework is based on three pillars, including the reinforcement of human talent and social capital.

To mark the date, the United Nations in Cape Verde even organizes the UN Week, from the 24th to the 28th of October, with a wide range of events.

But, the central event takes place on the 24th of October, in the town of Ribeira da Barca, in partnership with the Government of Cape Verde and the Municipality of Santa Catarina de Santiago.

According to information from the UN, it is a practice adopted in recent years, “breaking with the classic” and “carrying out activities on the ground with local populations”.

Raise awareness of local development

The objective is to contribute to drawing attention and promoting the potential of communities, as well as raising awareness about crucial issues of local development.

The highlight of this celebration, they guarantee, will be the signing of the new United Nations Cooperation Framework in Cape Verde 2023-2027, in an act that will be chaired by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva together with the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Cape Verde, Ana Patrícia Graça, in addition to other entities present.

New framework based on three pillars

The United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027 (UNSDCF or CF), guarantees, is the “most important” instrument for planning and implementing the organization’s development activities at the national level, in support of the implementation of the Agenda of Sustainable Development 2030 according to the declaration of the United Nations General Assembly (AG).

The new commitment is based on three strategic areas that respond to Cape Verde’s “current and future” priorities and challenges, such as Strengthening Human Talent and Social Capital, Inclusive Economic Transformation, Prosperity and Just Transition to a Healthy Environment and a Transformative Governance and Enhanced Territorial Cohesion.
