Africa-Press – Cape verde. The town of Ribeira da Barca, municipality of Santa Catarina de Santiago, hosts today the activities commemorating the 77th anniversary of the United Nations. The highlight of this event will be the signing of the new Framework for Cooperation between the United Nations and the Government.
According to a press release from the Municipality of Santa Catarina, the choice of Ribeira da Barca to mark the 77th anniversary of the United Nations was an initiative that came from the office of the coordinator of the United Nations System in Cape Verde.
It is, according to the same source, one of the “great opportunities” to present the potential of this fishing village in Santa Catarina, namely Cascata de Águas Caídas, Gruta de Águas Belas and Praia Djangado, more investments.
High point of the celebrations
The highlight of this Monday’s event, 24th, is the signing of the new cooperation framework, between the United Nations and the Government of Cape Verde, for a period of five years, as we have previously reported here , and based on three axes, including human and social capital development.
This in addition to activities related to raising awareness of environmental issues, namely with regard to sand collection.
The program also includes a round table for the presentation of projects from the Santa Catarina municipality to Ribeira da Barca, taking advantage of the presence of high-ranking personalities in the place.
Concert with Tcheka
The closing takes place at the end of the day, after a concert by Tcheka and the performance of other local artists, namely Netos de Djotu Lopi, Batucadeiras Estrelas do Mar and Batucadeiras Brianda Norte.
It is recalled that for some years now, the United Nations Day has been marked on the ground, in direct contact with local populations, with the aim of helping to draw attention and promote the potential of communities, as well as raising awareness of issues crucial for local development.
