Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Free Union of Workers of Santo Antão (SLTSA) will meet, this Wednesday, 9, in Ponta do Sol, with the Ombudsman of Cape Verde, to denounce various labor problems, which affect the public and private sectors in island, including some ministries. Among the problems, the fact that the workers of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in the Forest Perimeter of Planalto Leste, continue to earn a daily salary of 249$00.
The meeting, according to the permanent secretary of the SLTSA, Carlos Bartolomeu, aims to “call the Ombudsman, and the Cape Verdean Ombudsman itself, for the countless problems that people go through, who, by the way, have families ”.
Among these problems are, as he said, “a certain neglect” in relation to the Technical and Operational Personnel assigned to the ministries of Agriculture, Education and Health.
“This is the case of workers at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in the Forestry Perimeter of Planalto Leste, earning a daily salary of 249$00”, he complains, taking into account that this is not the first time that this precariousness has been drawn attention.
However, worse than that, according to the same source, are technicians waiting for the so-called professional reclassification, extension technicians “left to chance”.
city councils
Among the problems that the Union must present to the Ombudsman, there is also the situation of the municipal councils of the three municipalities on the island.
According to Bartolomeu, the workers assigned to these municipal institutions have been going through “very worrying” situations, as is the case of the already denounced lack of coverage by the INPS.
There are also issues related to the salary of employees linked to the Sanitation Support Service, who, according to the union, earn a salary below the national minimum.
sanitary agents
Still in terms of salaries, the union indicates that many health agents assigned to the Porto Novo Health Department, with an employment relationship with the local authority, earn a salary in the amount of 15,000$00, others below this amount, when “they should receive a salary based on the amount of 20,058$00”, in accordance with the Careers and Salary Position Plan “PCCS”.
The tourist sector, he argued, should also receive special attention from the authorities, as well as youth unemployment on the island and extreme poverty.
To the Ombudsman, the SLTSA promises to take all issues that affect the working class on the island, bearing in mind, as he said, that there is “enormous and great discrimination at work on the island”.
