Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government of Cape Verde has granted a day off from 12:00 on 4 March for Carnival and throughout the 5th to mark the first day of Lent throughout the country.

The Government dispatch published in Series I, number 12 of 21-02-2025 of the Official Gazette justifies the practice of granting a day off during Carnival and the first day of Lent with the fact that these events are rooted in Cape Verdean culture.

“A day off is granted to employees and agents of the State, Public Institutes and Local Authorities for Carnival and the first day of Lent, from 12:00 on 4 March (Tuesday) and throughout the day of 5 March (Wednesday) 2025, throughout the country”, reads the Official Gazette.

The opening and attendance hours for employees and workers of the services referred to on 4 March are from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Also according to the publication in the Official Gazette, members of the Armed Forces, the National Police, the Judicial Police, health establishments, prison officers, guards and security guards and services that work continuously, whose presence is imperative, are not covered by this tolerance period and will continue to work the same hours to which they are legally bound.
