Rui Lopes, Jonathan Gomes, Kelvin Fortes and Pedro Cruz are part of the group of Cape Verdean drivers who worked for a public transport company and as taxi drivers, who arrived in the last week of October, coming from the island of Sa\u0303o Vicente, to reinforce the of the staff in the road transport company in Portugal.Jonathan Gomes recognizes that \u201cit was not an easy decision\u201d to risk the work they had in Cape Verde but says that they will \u201cdo their utmost\u201d and \u201cdo everything to help the company\u201d, expecting the same from the other party.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are all in an adaptation phase, with all the accommodation conditions and the company is always available to help us\u201d, assured Rui Lopes, who said that they are receiving the food and accommodation subsidy for a few months, to give them time to get a house to rent, as they are currently staying in different hotels.<\/p>\n

As soon as they arrived, the drivers began training to get to know the company’s operation, but also the lines of careers, some have already finished and started working.<\/p>\n

\u201cFake news\u201d<\/p>\n

It is the unanimous verdict of the group in relation to a photo circulating on social networks, allegedly showing Cape Verdeans eating on the ground and saying that they were being treated like slaves.<\/p>\n

They claim that the photo “is fake” that so far they have no reason to complain, because the company treats them “very well”.<\/p>\n

The Cape Verdean drivers were hired by Alsa Todi, who “guaranteed their ability to perform their functions”, to reinforce the public road transport service in the municipalities of Setu\u0301bal, Palmela, Montijo, Moita and Alcochete.<\/p>\n
