Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The foreign and immigrant population in Cape Verde represents 2.2% of the population in Cape Verde. There are 10,869 foreigners, according to data from the 1st survey of the Foreign and Immigrant Population, carried out between August and September, presented today in Praia.<\/p>\n

According to the study, 37.4% of immigrants come from Guinea Bissau, 11.3% from Senegal, 9.2% from Portugal, 4.9% from Nigeria, 4.7% from China and 4.5% from of Sao Tome and Principe.<\/p>\n

Data indicate that 18.6% have Cape Verdean ancestry, 78.6% through their mother, 68.7% through their father, 51.9% through their maternal grandparents, 43.4% through their paternal grandparents, 25.1% maternal great-grandparents, 21.7% of paternal great-grandparents and 9.4% greater than great-grandparents.<\/p>\n

Of the 10869 foreigners residing in the country, 7431 are men, which represents 68.4%, 3438 are women, which corresponds to 31.6%.<\/p>\n

Data show that most live in Praia, with 38.2%, followed by Sal with 21.1%, Boa Vista with 12.2%, Sa\u0303o Vicente with 11.3% and the remaining islands with 11.7%.<\/p>\n

The study also reveals that immigrants or foreigners aged 15 or over attended basic education with 26.1%, secondary with 46.9%, post-secondary with 20.8%, and higher education with 6.2 %.<\/p>\n

Most foreign children attend school<\/p>\n

The survey also concluded that 9.5% of foreign immigrants are children between the ages of 4 and 14, 89.2% attend an educational establishment.<\/p>\n

Regarding economic activity, 9,417 immigrants are of working age, which represents 86.6%, with 79.5% employed and 1.9% unemployed.<\/p>\n

The survey covered a sample of 3,025 households where at least one individual with foreign nationality or dual nationality resides, the first being a foreign national.<\/p>\n

This survey is part of the project \u201cCoop4Int \u2013 Strengthening Migrantes Integration through cooperation between Portugal and Cabo Verde\u201d, implemented by the High Commission for Migrations of Portugal (ACM), the High Authority for Immigration, the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE) , and the Polytechnic Institute of Braganc\u0327a (IPB).<\/p>\n
