Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The funeral of Alberto Pancra\u0301cio Lopes, former Merchant Navy Captain and well-known figure in Sa\u0303o Vicente society, will take place today, Tuesday, at 4 pm. The funeral procession will depart from the deceased’s residence, on Avenida 5 Julho, in Mindelo, Sa\u0303o Vicente island.<\/p>\n

The \u201cMr. Alberto\u201d, as he was commonly known, was 97 years old and, according to his grandson Rui Alberto in statements to the online Mindel Insite, he had recently been losing strength, especially after a fall that took him to the Baptista de Sousa Hospital in Mindelo. .<\/p>\n

Contribution to the development of the country’s merchant navy<\/p>\n

Alberto Pancra\u0301cio Lopes, a well-known figure in Sa\u0303o Vicente society, was a Merchant Navy Captain, having captained the ships \u201cNovas de Alegria\u201d and \u201cErnestina\u201d. He was also the owner of the ships \u201cElsie\u201d and \u201cVilma\u201d, of his own Merchant Marine Company which, in the post-Independence years, helped to guarantee the supply and connection between the islands of Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

The \u201cCaptain of the Seas of the Islands\u201d, as he was also nicknamed, tirelessly contributed to the development of the country’s merchant navy.<\/p>\n

There were several figures who reacted to the death of what they consider an \u201cillustrious Cape Verdean of fine treatment\u201d given his \u201cextreme friendliness and incomparable elegance\u201d, with which he treated those who related to him.<\/p>\n
