Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The director general of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, warned that a third of the world economy will be in recession this year, including \u201chalf of the European Union\u201d.<\/p>\n

In an interview with CBS, Kristalina Georgieva stressed that \u201c2023 will be a difficult year for most of the world, more difficult than the one we left behind\u201d, as the three major economies \u2013 the United States, the European Union and the China \u2013 \u201care slowing down at the same time\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Director-General predicts that half of the countries of the European Union, whose economy was \u201cseverely hit\u201d by the war in Ukraine, will enter a recession in 2023.<\/p>\n

Resilient USA and China with negative impacts of its \u201czero covid\u201d policy<\/p>\n

Kristalina Georgieva sees, on the other hand, the US economy as more \u201cresilient\u201d, showing confidence that the country can help to \u201csustain the world in a very difficult year\u201d.<\/p>\n

Regarding China, the official says that the effects of its ‘zero covid’ policy will make its economic growth “equal to or lower” than world growth, causing a negative impact on its economy, that of the region and the world in general .<\/p>\n
