Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>New Year\u2019s Eve in Praia was \u201crelatively peaceful\u201d, as the Regional Commander of the National Police (PN), Roberto Fernandes, said. There is a record of the murder of a 21-year-old young man in the neighborhood of Calabaceira and a corpse found on a ravine in the locality of Achada Mato.<\/p>\n

As a balance of the New Year’s Eve festivities in the city of Praia, the Regional Commander of the National Police (PN), Roberto Fernandes said, in an interview with Inforpress, that the night of Saturday, 31st, to Sunday, January 1st, was \u201crelatively quiet\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the balance made by the Commander, Roberto Fernandes, the \u201cmost serious\u201d occurrence was an assault with a firearm on the shin, but the victim, who was admitted to the University Hospital Dr. Agostinho Neto na Praia, from Achadinha, was treated and discharged from the hospital.<\/p>\n

Two assaults with a knife were also recorded, a vehicle being rolled over, a pedestrian being run over with minor injuries and theft in a commercial establishment.<\/p>\n

However, the PN mentions that on the New Year’s Eve festivities on Sunday 1st January, the occurrences were more serious.<\/p>\n

Young man, 21 years old, stabbed to death in Calabaceira<\/p>\n

In the neighborhood of Calabaceira, on the outskirts of Cidade da Praia, a 21-year-old young man succumbed to injuries caused by a stab wound to the region between his shoulder and neck. The victim died on the way to the hospital.<\/p>\n

About this case, Roberto Fernandes advanced that it results from \u201cintolerance\u201d following a misunderstanding between the victim and her 23-year-old assailant. As he went on, it has not yet been \u201cconfirmed, but there are suspicions\u201d that this is a case related to a conflict between rival groups.<\/p>\n

Following this homicide, four people were arrested, including the presumed aggressor, and the murder weapon was seized.<\/p>\n

Corpse found in Achada Mato<\/p>\n

Another incident, yesterday, 1 January, in the city of Praia, involves a corpse, apparently of a young male, which was found on a ravine in the locality of Achada Mato. The said corpse was found by residents who called the National Police.<\/p>\n

About this case, Roberto Fernandes told Inforpress that it is suspected that he fell, but assured that other hypotheses are not excluded, so the Judiciary Police was called to inspect and collect the corpse.<\/p>\n
