In line to say goodbye to the king, Band News found Afonso, a Cape Verdean emigrant in Brazil for 46 years, who was carrying a tribute: an autographed shirt and a medal offered by Pele\u0301 himself.<\/p>\n

Afonso explains that he has worked for Pele\u0301 and his family since he was 15, as they used to go to his workshop.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Mercedes were the ones that took the most work, they rarely needed maintenance, but when they came, it was a problem.<\/p>\n

They came from Guaruja\u0301, in addition to the cars, I rescued Pele\u0301’s father countless times in Acapulco with a broken car\u201d, he comments, laughing.<\/p>\n

Afonso says that Pele\u0301 made him support Santos since Cape Verde, so much so that he met Santos before Brazil.<\/p>\n

\u201cI listened to Santos de Pele\u0301 and I knew what it was, I didn’t even know what Brazil was.<\/p>\n

There I only knew Pele\u0301, he was awesome, now he’s playing up there in the sky\u201d, he says.<\/p>\n
